I was fortunate to teach at the university level many times over a nearly three-decade period, the last six years full-time. College students are one of my favorite students to teach because they are so enthusiastic - eager as they are to learn and start their careers. Some of my fondest memories are of working with them.

The comments below are gleaned from the evaluations they made of my teaching. Most of these are from the last few years I taught at the university level. These reviews are verbatim quotes of the original reviews.

Jeff is a good teacher. He gives good examples and explains everything carefully & in a creative way so everyone understands the work.

Jeff Anvinson was the best aspect to improve learning in this class. He is one of the best teachers that I have had this year.

He is an extremely good guitar instructor and ensemble leader. He has helped me grow musically by challenging me to play things that I thought were out of reach. He gave so much encouragement through the difficult parts. He really made the ensemble enjoyable.

The fact that Jeff was always eager to help, and constantly applauded our efforts, definitely was key in helping me learn more about music.

Jeff was open to everything I wanted to do and was able to offer great insight and help to almost everything I wanted to do. What he did not know on the spot he found out for me. He has access to a great amount of music he allowed me to use. A great teacher.

I felt that Mr. Anvinson was an excellent instructor - I learned far more than I had expected. He made the material easy & clear to understand. He also was extremely helpful & he was always open for questions. His door was also always open for extra help if needed. I felt he had a genuine care & concern for his students. (He also made learning music theory fun!)

Mr. Anvinson is a wonderful teacher & person. He gave lots of his free time up to hold extra sessions with us just so we can understand the material. Thank you!!

Jeff is a very good teacher and is very good at guitar. I learned from Jeff exactly what I wanted to learn when I signed up for the class. Jeff gave me the tools to become a better guitar player.

Jeff is very enthusiastic about teaching what he is very good at. He knows his stuff and loves what he is doing. I wish we had more class periods probably this is the only class I enjoy coming to.

This is the first year I have ever attempted to learn music theory, so I've had a rough time now and then. Even though Mr. Anvinson is extremely busy with his guitar lessons, he has always found time outside of class to help me. He is very fair and treats his students like adults.

This class was very challenging but I felt I have learned a great deal from it.

Wide variety of selection for techniques. Songs could have been in more styles but were always fun, challenging, etc. Always had a positive attitude, always point out both good things and things to work on in a gentle manner. Gives lots of encouragement. I never had a problem with Jeff. Always very understanding, easy to ask questions to, nice person, great teacher. Thanks Jeff, you made guitar fun.
